The girls gathered together at the dock behind their house overlooking miles of beach. One approached with a cooler full of beers that they each took out and opened. They talked for hours, reminiscing over the fun they had that summer. It was the last night at the beach house before everything was to change. Everyone was going on their own path. Lisa was moving to New York. Annabelle was enrolling back into school to give it another go. Joanne was in the movies; the famous friend who thankfully didn’t forget about the ones she left behind. And then there’s Bedilia, the quiet one. She had no direction, no goals, no dreams. She worked her job, went home, slept and repeated the next day. The only thing she cared about were her friends, the ones she made so many memories with. They were the ones who were there when her mom died, the ones who hooked her up with that hot barista who wound up being kinda dumb and still lived with his parents. These were the same girls who tried to give her a Skrillex haircut a couple of years ago and failed miserably. Bedilia broke away from her thoughts to listen to Lisa talk about the guy at the bar the other night who kept talking about his lame car. They all shared a laugh. Bedilia looked out to the ocean as it grew darker with the sun setting. She couldn’t help but think of that song she liked so much. This is what makes us girls.
